Beginning of Chapter 2 notes(The Great Gatsby)

  • The reason why the author included Daisy and Jordan gossiping about the butler to Nick isn't because the author wanted us to know about the butler, but wanted us to know about their character. They don't care about the butler. He's just a prop to them.
  • Mentions of the green eyes again.                                                                                                  I wonder what that means....
  • Nick sees Tom's mistress.
Yay for cliffhangers.😂

GREAT GATSBY REMIX 1

There are three steps to making a remix:copying, transformation, and combination. So I summarized chapter one and included my own opinions to create something more modern than a poster (or something like that) but with a vintage twist. Here's the link to my remix of chapter one:

Remixing thoughts

When we were talking about remixing in class, I suddenly remembered this quote. What I like about it that it doesn't mention the word "original". Everyone is a remix and when we create something new, we remixed something and added our own flavor/unique ideas. To create a remix, one must copy, but not completely. I think we use the thing that we copy as a guideline. Soon we can become so good at the thing we're trying to do that we can make it our own by adding our own ideas. For example, as we heard in class, to become a good writer, you must read. As the quote says below, to become a good song writer you should start off by using other songs as templates and then you can take the training wheels off once you understand it. Anyways...... those were my thoughts about today's discussion. :)

Naturalism, Realism, and Modernism

Decided to do a bit of research of the following topics and added memes. Not sure if I'm in the right direction, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.... :)

Naturalism is the belief that nothing exists outside of nature or the natural world.

In literature, naturalism is used when authors write about characters are following a higher power, leading them to a fate that cannot be escaped.

Realism- the beliefs outside our minds

In literature, realism is when the characters are responsible for their own action. So they create their own fate. Kind of the opposite of naturalism.

Modernism-a movement that changes traditional beliefs to beliefs that follow modern ideas.

Modernism in literature is a break from traditional writing.

EVERYTHING IS A REMIX

The overall message that I got from the every thing's a remix video is: nothing that has been created is original. Everyone is a creator and we all take ideas from each other to create something that is new.

MUSIC AS LITERATURE

I think that music can be considered to be literature.
The definition of literature(from class): Imaginative and creative writing of recognized artisitic value.
The difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony is that they are all different formats. However, they are all mediums that do the same thing:tell a story and create visuals using an imaginative way to express them.
Obviously, a lot of songs have lyrics which classifies them as poems. Poems are taught in literature classes.  Even songs that don't have any lyrics are literature. People may argue that music in general isn't literature because words have meaning and a lot of music does not have any words. How a novel needs words to give meaning and tell a story, a piece of music has notes that gives it meaning and tells a story using sound. When we hear a minor key, we associate it with sadness and when we hear a  major key, we often think of it as a happy sound. The notes that create sound give us emotions, feelings, and give us visuals that create a story in our mind. Just like when you read a book, you create visuals in your mind that goes with the story.  Music is a different language, an universal language. This means we can read it and write it. Musicians create it as much as authors create novels. Music is an art. So is writing. They both have artistic value. Authors and musicians both use their imaginations to create art that tells us a story. They both qualify as literature according to the definition.

What I read over the break.....

I didn't exactly read one book. I'm kind of a multitasker so I got a bunch of books and read a little of each.😅 All of the books were astrology books. I kinda find it fun to read horoscopes and such but I never actually believed in it. How can everyone in the whole world fit into one of the 12 zodiac signs? I guess what I'm trying to say is,  how can everybody have just one element to their personality?
So what I learned.....
•Yes, it is true that your zodiac sign does make up parts of your personality.
For example, I'm a gemini. I may have most of the traits geminis have but, I of course won't have every single one of those traits and will have different ones aswell. The thing is, your personality and things that make you, you are determined by where all the planets where aligned the exact minute you were born.  That's why people think astrology is just a bunch of bologna. They just think that they have one sign but in reality, they have more. I was born in May about the middle of the gemini season. That means gemini is my main sign, which is also known as a star sign. The moon was in Taurus. So that means I have some of their traits aswell. Then there's a midheaven and  ascending/ descending signs too (I've forgotten what mine are). My point is supposedly all the planets' locations during the exact time of your birth determines who you are and how you deal with things. What I did was look up my birth chart online to figure out all of my other signs.
How does astrology affect us in our daily lives? Well wherever and whenever the planets move, it affects our lives some how. For example, Mercury was in retrograde from December 19th to January 8th. How it affected me was I wasn't able to focus on one thing during the break. I was trying to cram in exercising, practicing guitar, studying for getting my drivers permit, christmas preparations, spending lots of time with family, reorganizing my room, reading all the books I got, catch up on youtube videos, text friends, walk the dogs, and help cooking all in one day. I didn't get anything done and I feel that I didn't accomplish one thing during the holidays, which I really didn't.
Anyways before this posts gets any longer and continues to make absolutely no sence, here was one of the books I was reading:
(Complete Book of Astrology by Kris Brandt Riske)
I'm still kind of skeptical about this topic, but it's still fascinating how planets that are so far a way from us can still affect our lives without most of us even knowing. I'll probably recheck out all of the books I got again to read them completely in the summer. (:⭐️✨🌙💫🌕🌒🌞

HELLO 2017!

I don't feel that I've grew that much since 2016. However, I've been trying to make some changes to my lifestyle like eating healthier and exercising a lot more often. I now know how to play the guitar a little bit. I also read more often about what's interesting to me like books or articles about music or astrology.
